DAVID CHO SCHOLARSHIPS

 

Cho’s Scholarships, which are awarded by the Council on Korean Studies at the Asian Studies Center, are offered to the two qualified MSU students ($1,000 each). Recipients will be selected based on academic performance and financial need. Special consideration will be given to either the students who promote an understanding of Korean culture or the students that are U.S. veterans, ROTC members, and/or active members of the military.

TO BE ELIGIBLE for a scholarship, an applicant:

  1. Must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at MSU during the scholarship year.

  2. Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

  3. Has promoted an understanding of Korean culture through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities. 

 

A COMPLETE APPLICATION consists of:

  1. A completed scholarship application form;

  2. A copy of transcripts;

  3. A completed financial document;

  4. A 250-300 word essay, which addresses 1) how you helped to promote an understanding of Korean culture and 2) how your activities help to advance the university’s stated mission of building and supporting a culture of diversity and inclusion; and

  5. One recommendation letter (*Please arrange to send one letter of recommendation directly from recommenders to Chair of Scholarship Committee at cks.globalkorea@gmail.com.)

UPON NOTIFICATION OF THE AWARD (By September 1, 2022), a recipient:

  1. Must express acceptance and appreciation of the award in writing within six weeks of notification of the award, by correspondence addressed to Dr. Young Ho Cho, 5053 Okemos Rd, East Lansing, MI 48823.

  2. Will receive $500 of the award (into the student account) in the next few weeks after confirming the letter sent to Dr. Cho, and the remaining half $500 at the 2022 Global Korea Award ceremony on Saturday, October 1, 2022 (upon confirmation of attendance).
